Youth Grantmakers

Since 2009, Youth Grantmakers (YG) has been creating spaces for young leaders to step into their power and reshape our communities. This isn’t just another program – it’s a movement where youth learn to direct resources where they’re needed most, understand the real impact of nonprofit work, and make decisions that create lasting change through an equity lens. Think of it as an opportunity to not just imagine a better future, but to actually build it. Join a community of young visionaries who are learning to navigate the nonprofit sector, make impactful funding decisions, and lead with purpose. This is where your voice matters, where your insights shape real change, and where your leadership journey begins.

Ready to take action?

While our current cohort is full, we’re already looking forward to welcoming new voices and perspectives. The next application cycle opens in June 2024. Keep watching this page for updates, or follow our journey on Instagram to be the first to know when applications open. This pause in applications is not a pause in our movement – it’s an invitation to reflect, prepare, and envision how you might contribute to this transformative work. Your journey starts here. Have questions about how you can be part of this transformative experience? Reach out to our Program Manager, Denisha Shackelford, at dshackelford@iegives.org. Join us in creating the change our community needs. Your perspective matters. Your leadership matters. Your future matters.

Our donors make this work possible!

Your generous support fuels this transformative program. During their academic year training, students survey other students to understand what is important to them, learn about local nonprofits serving youth, undertake service projects, analyze grant applications, debate critical needs, and prioritize worthwhile requests. By investing in Youth Grantmakers, you’re making a long-term difference in the future of our communities. You’re empowering young people to become the civic leaders of tomorrow, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and passion to create lasting change.

“Youth Grantmakers impacted my life tremendously! I have been a part of many different committees however, I’ve never been a part of such a mature group of youth. I felt like an executive (lol). I learned more about not only the philanthropy world but how to operate in a world with all the different personalities you may come across. Youth Grantmakers was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had and I’m excited to come back next year.” -Treneta Wilkes
