Lifelong Riverside residents Dwight Tate and Kathy Wright learned the importance of philanthropy from their families. “I come from a large family,” Wright says, “and we learned early on that you need to help one another.”
The retired educator recalls her first contribution to UC Riverside’s Alumni Association was $25. “It’s not how much you give but the idea that you give to try to help others.”
Tate, in memory of his mother, established the Maxine Tate Library Fund with IECF in 2000 to extend and enhance library services in his hometown. The retired financial planner has served on the IECF Investment Committee for many years, and together the couple support several IECF funds, including the Women’s Giving Fund and the FRieNDS of Veterans Fund.
Married 47 years, Tate and Wright are also Brouse Legacy Society members, meaning they have made provisions in their estate plans to provide a gift to IECF as a legacy for the region.
“We’re delighted to be able to support the work that IECF does,” Tate says. “We’re happy to engage with the people we know and other organizations to make sure people are aware there’s a lot of good work being done, and they can join us.”
