Brie Griset Smith, CSPG, Chief Development Officer at IECF, has announced Michael Hinkle’s appointment as the new Charitable Giving Officer for Coachella Valley.

Hinkle is a native of the Coachella Valley with deep roots in the region’s philanthropic and community landscape. Born in Palm Springs and raised in Indio, Michael often says, “I spent 19 years trying to get out of the desert and it took me 10 to return.” After a decade in Los Angeles working for a Hollywood movie star and earning his B.S. in Business Administration, he and his family returned to the Coachella Valley to build a life.

In his new role as Giving Officer for Coachella Valley,  Michael will work closely with individuals, families, and businesses to create lasting impact through permanent charitable funds supporting key areas such as education, equity, social justice, healthcare, the arts, and community development. His ability to blend creativity with strategic vision allows him to connect deeply with donors and inspire meaningful contributions to the community.

Michael brings over two decades of experience in donor relations and fundraising. Most recently, he served as Associate Director of Development at the Palm Springs Art Museum, where he helped secure transformative funding, cultivate meaningful relationships with donors, and support the museum’s long-term growth for over 12 years. His strategic approach to philanthropy and deep understanding of donor engagement have driven sustainable support for a range of nonprofit initiatives that will benefit the Coachella Valley for years to come.

A creative at heart, Michael was born into a family of artists and “makers,” which shaped his approach to both life and work. He and his wife of 35 years have raised their four children to value social justice, diversity, and equality—passing on a passion for creativity and purpose.

Michael is passionate about strengthening IECF’s presence in the Coachella Valley. He looks forward to helping build a more vibrant, equitable, and connected future through philanthropy and is eager to engage with the community to make a meaningful difference in the region.

As Michael steps into the position, IECF extends its gratitude to John McGuirk, who is retiring after his dedicated service and outstanding contributions to IECF and the Coachella Valley community.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Michael as our new Charitable Giving Officer for the Coachella Valley,” said Griset Smith. “Michael’s lifelong connection to this region, along with his creative spirit and deep experience in philanthropy, make him the ideal partner for donors who want to create lasting impact. He understands the heart of this community and brings both vision and warmth to every relationship. I invite you to connect with Michael—you’ll find a trusted guide who’s ready to help you bring your philanthropic goals to life in meaningful and lasting ways.”
