This year marks 50 years for Black Voice News and its influential contributions to amplifying the voices and stories of the Black community in the Inland Empire! From its humble beginnings as a grassroots publication in the heart of Riverside, it has evolved into a trusted source of news and an unwavering advocate for social justice. IECF’s Immediate Past Board Chair, Dr. Paulette Brown-Hinds, is publisher and leads a talented team behind the leading-edge paper.
Earlier this month, IECF was delighted to join in commemorating this significant milestone at the kickoff event of Power of the Press: Black Voice News@50 Exhibit at the San Bernardino County Museum. The exhibit documents the transformation of BVN from a printed community weekly to a digital focused, data reporting news organization. It also highlights the work it does as a watchdog, coverage of community events, and reporting on social justice issues.
“IECF recognizes the immense value of Black Voice News from its inception and has been a steadfast supporter throughout its journey,” said Michelle Decker, IECF CEO. “We’re inspired by the publication’s dedication to highlighting the achievements, challenges, and aspirations of the Black community, fostering dialogue, and promoting a more inclusive society.”
Dr. Brown-Hinds is also chair of the Media and Journalism Fund + Hub at IECF. The Fund’s goal is to support Inland Empire journalism and media outlets and the pipeline of talent in this sector.
Stayed tuned for more exciting updates about the Fund and how you can show your support!
